On its 6th edition, the LUGAR FUTURO Festival will return in 2026 to promote young artists, both through the premieres of new dance pieces by national and foreign choreographers and the presentation of first works by emerging choreographers, in a program divided between the Teatro Viriato, the IPDJ Auditorium and the Lugar Presente space, with the financial support of the Municipality of Viseu and the Direção Geral das Artes.
The four-day program, directed by Leonor Keil, will consist of performances, films, masterclasses and discussions with the public,
with the aim of exchanging experiences between the participating young choreographers and dancers, joined by students and teachers from national and foreign dance schools, in an environment of live exchange with the public in the city of Viseu and also around the world via live streaming.
One of the highlights of this year’s program is the presentation of a selected set of dance works, which we call ‘first works’. A careful selection of six pieces by young choreographers, chosen from a pool of hundreds of applications from dozens of countries, that as usual promises to surprise with the diversity, quality and freshness of its proposals.
For this edition, the festival once again collaborates with the InShadow video-dance festival, presents a selection of short films that have won awards in 2025.
The partnership with the Escola Superior de Dança will also be repeated, presenting the work of students from the Dance Degree. In addition, this year there will be partnerships with the Conservatório de Dança de Paredes and with the Bucarest Dance Conservatory, which will perform in Viseu for the first time.
In its 6th edition, the Lugar Futuro Festival has once again established itself as a vibrant platform for international contact between the professional world and dance education, bringing together young artists and renowned choreographers with the aim of constantly raising public awareness of contemporary dance.
